El cuento fantástico venezolano del siglo XIX

La crítica literaria que se ocupó de los orígenes de la narrativa corta de índole fantástica publicada en nuestro país había establecido que los primeros cuentos propiamente fantásticos los había escrito Julio Garmendia. Así, su libro La tienda de muñecos (1927) se convirtió, durante mucho tiempo, en «génesis» de esta modalidad. Sin embargo, el cuento de carácter «sobrenatural» se cultiva entre nosotros desde los años del romanticismo. Este trabajo examina algunos relatos del siglo XIX, claros antecedentes, si no es que iniciadores, de esta tendencia en Venezuela.
Abstract
The literary critic dedicated to the study of the fantastic short narrative origins that was published in our country, had established that the first properly fantastic stories had been written by Julio Garmendia. Thus, his book La tienda de muñecos (1927) became, during a lot of time, the «genesis» of this modality. However, the «supernatural» tale was cultivated among us from the years of the romanticism. This paper examines some XIX century stories, which were undoubtedly the pioneers of this tendency in Venezuela.
