This article presents a systematic literature review aimed at investigating how the themes of mathematical literacy and algebraic thinking have been addressed in Brazilian research within the field of Mathematics Education. The survey was conducted using the BUSCAd tool technology, based on a protocol with inclusion and exclusion criteria, considering publications between 2015 and 2025. Six articles were selected for analysis, which highlight different investigative approaches, including practices with students, teacher training, the use of digital technologies, and methodological approaches. The study is grounded in the understanding of literacy and numeracy as distinct yet inseparable concepts and adopts the perspective that algebraic thinking can manifest through different forms of representation, not limited to formal symbolic language. The results indicate that, although there have been advances in the discussion of these themes, the research tends to address them in a fragmented manner, sometimes focusing on mathematical literacy, other times on algebraic thinking. Furthermore, studies were identified that do not explicitly differentiate between mathematical literacy and mathematical numeracy, despite these notions involving relevant conceptual distinctions. Therefore, the need is highlighted for research that deepens the integrated understanding of mathematical literacy and algebraic thinking, considering their implications for pedagogical practice.
