Record of partial leucism in the Carib Grackle (Quiscalus lugubris), in Cerro El Copey National Park, Margarita island, Venezuela
Abstract. The first record of partial leucism in an adult male Quiscalus lugubris is documented from Cerro El Copey National Park, on Margarita Island (Venezuela). The sighting occurred on May 2, 2026, at an elevation of 450 m a.s.l., during a morning foot survey. The individual exhibited a complete absence of pigmentation in the cephalic region, while the remainder of its body plumage appeared normal. The significance of this finding is discussed within the context of inbreeding in insular populations and altitudinal selective pressure. This record underscores the importance of continuous monitoring in protected areas and contributes to the understanding of chromatic anomalies in Neotropic avifauna.
