Registros recientes del Gorrión común (Passer domesticus L., 1758. Aves: Passeridae) en la isla de Margarita, estado Nueva Esparta, Venezuela

Resumen. El Gorrión común (Passer domesticus L.) es una especie originaria de Eurasia y el norte de África, introducida en muchas regiones distantes, y asociada a ambientes urbanos. En la isla de Margarita, Venezuela, los registros históricos han sido escasos. Entre marzo 2006 y abril 2024, en solo dos ocasiones fue avistado en La Restinga, y una vez en la vecina isla de Coche; señaladas en eBird. De enero 2025 a junio 2025, durante censos mensuales desarrollados en la Laguna de Los Mártires (Juan Griego), se avistó el ave en nueve ocasiones, observándose de uno a nueve individuos, superando los registros previos de un solo ejemplar. Se sugiere que su presencia reciente podría relacionarse con un ambiente urbanizado adecuado y mayor disponibilidad de recursos. La especie pasa de ser de hipotética para la isla a establecida.

Recent records of the House Sparrow (Passer domesticus L., 1758. Aves: Passeridae) on Margarita Island, Nueva Esparta State, Venezuela

Abstract. The House Sparrow (Passer domesticus L.) is a species native to Eurasia and North Africa, introduced to many distant regions, and associated with urban environments. On Margarita Island, Venezuela, historical records have been scarce. Between March 2006 and April 2024, they were sighted only twice times in La Restinga, and once on the neighboring Coche Island, as recorded on eBird. More recently, from January 2025 to June 2025, during monthly censuses conducted in Laguna de Los Mártires (Juan Griego), the bird was sighted nine times, with observations ranging from one to nine individuals, exceeding previous records of a single bird. It is suggested that its recent presence could be related to a suitable urbanized environment and greater resource availability. The species has thus moved from being hypothetical to established on the island.
