Abstract

The objective of this research was to establish relationships between the occurrence of sleep disorders and the development of Alzheimer’s disease. The methodology employed was a systematic review conducted according to the PRISMA method utilizing the Scopus, PsycINFO, and Web of Science databases. The keywords used were sleep disturbances, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease. The sample consisted of 31 scientific articles, selected according to the established inclusion criteria. The most important findings highlight the significant relationship between sleep disturbances and Alzheimer’s disease. Scientific studies indicate that changes in the sleep cycle typically occur in the early stages of the disease, manifesting as difficulties falling asleep, nighttime interruptions, and insomnia. These alterations impact the lives of adults and are diagnostic indicators in the progression of dementia.
