El concreto en la arquitectura venezolana: las décadas de ensayo

Abstract

En este artículo se plantean algunas ideas sobre la utilización
del concreto en la arqui - tectura venezolana durante las primeras tres décadas del siglo XX. Los ensayos con los métodos y procedimientos constructivos por parte de los profesionales en el país serían el telón de fondo para la estética del eclecticismo historicista y luego para la progresiva aparición de la arquitectura que anunciaba el movimiento moderno en Venezuela.
La introducción del concreto en sistemas compuestos, la puesta en funcionamiento de la Fábrica Nacional de Cemento, las pruebas y cálculos del material producido y su uso práctico en obras públicas y privadas, constituyen el panorama de un tiempo en que los profesionales de la construcción se aproximaron a los materiales y
técnicas que heredaría la siguiente generación de arquitectos.

Abstract
This article set some ideas about the uses of concrete in Venezuelan architecture during the first three decades of the
20th century. The rehearsals with the methods and constructive procedures for it, employed by the professionals in our country would remain as a backdrop for the eclecticism’s aesthetics and for the progressive appearance of the compositions that announced the architecture of the modern movement in Venezuela. The introduction of the concrete in compound systems, the setting in
operation of the National Factory of Cement, the tests and calculations of that produced material and its practical use in public and private works, constitute the panorama of a time in that the
professionals of the construction approached to the materials and procedures that it would inherit the following generation of
architects.
