Predictive value of admission and pre-discharge sodium, osmolality, and kidney function for 90-day rehospitalization in patients with heart failure reduced ejection fraction

Background: Heart failure (HF) affects 64.3 million people worldwide, with over half of them having preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). In Indonesia, the prevalence is 900.90 per 100,000, the second-highest in Asia. Rehospitalization rates are notably high, with 40% of patients readmitted within 90 days contributing to higher healthcare costs. Sodium and creatinine levels serve as crucial prognostic markers for HF, with low levels correlating with poor outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate sodium and creatinine levels as independent predictors of rehospitalization in patients with HF. Methods: This retrospective cohort study analyzed patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) diagnosed at the Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital Cardiac Center (March 2023–July 2023). Data on demographics, medical history, and laboratory results were collected from the Heart Failure Registry and medical records. A 90-day follow-up was conducted to assess the rehospitalization rates and clinical outcomes.
