Abstract

Due to the increasing number of consultations and admissions to the healthcare system of patients with multimorbidity, variable functional impairment, disability, decreased autonomy, dependency, and consequently, a diminished quality of life, it is necessary to implement a program for patients with multiple pathologies (PP) using scales of treatment adherence, frailty, and dependency. This review article addresses the concept of PP, its relationship with health determinants, the aging of the population, and the impact on the quality and costs of healthcare. Since therapeutic adherence is a determining factor for achieving better control and reducing rehospitalizations, the proposal for this line of research was submitted for approval by the Bioethics Committee of the Vargas Hospital in Caracas on February 9, 2025.
