Near miss, is considered a serious complication that occurs during pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium, and puts the life of the woman at risk, which requires immediate attention. Objective: to evaluate the use of the MEWT algorithm, in the identification of near miss patients, admitted in obstetrics emergency of the Maternidad “Concepción Palacios” between june 2019 – june 2020. Methods: The study is descriptive, ambispective, and cross-sectional; with a two groups design: case and controls, where the population will be represented by the patients who attend to the Maternidad “Concepción Palacios”, for medical attention, in the period indicated, with a non-probabilistic, intentional, and opinatic, sample. Results: the number of maternal deaths was reduced from 8 to 3, 7,7% of the patients were classified with severity criteria. Respiratory rate, and temperature, presented statistical significance to evaluate patients with extreme maternal morbidity. Conclusions: the behavior algorithm allows classifying and identifying patients with extreme maternal morbidity and reducing maternal mortality
