La agricultura venezolana y sus problemas sanitarios durante los años 2019 y 2020

Resumen

En este trabajo se intenta dar una visión apretada de la situación que viene atravesando la agricultura venezolana y la importancia que en ella han tenido los problemas sanitarios de los rubros más importantes, tomando como base de referencia cronológica los años 2019 y 2020. La falta de información oficial, marcadamente evidente en los años más recientes, obligó a recurrir a otras fuentes de información, tanto organizacionales como personales, para lo que se revisaron noticias aparecidas en medios de comunicación social, fundamentalmente electrónicos, participación en reuniones profesionales, conversaciones privadas y a una modesta encuesta que se hizo circular entre actores del sector. La valoración de lo obtenido en fuentes no tradicionales y la percepción personal nos condujo a coincidir con la visión negativa de la incapacidad de la agricultura venezolana para satisfacer significativamente la demanda nacional de alimentos, la cual se ha estimado en un 20% de lo requerido, a pesar de que existen capacidades ociosas debidas a un conjunto de restricciones ajenas a la actividad misma, que demandan ser corregidas urgentemente si deseamos un futuro distinto. Dentro del panorama actual, las plagas agrícolas son un elemento negativo adicional, cuyo control demanda recursos de difícil consecución, a pesar de que se posee el conocimiento que facilitaría su abordaje, si viviésemos en un ambiente político, económico y social distinto.

    "Venezuelan agriculture and its sanitary problems during the years 2019 and 2020"     ABSTRACT     This paper attempts to give a brief overview of the situation that Venezuelan agriculture has been going through and the importance that the sanitary problems of the most important crops have had on it, taking as a chronological reference base the years 2019 and 2020. The lack of official information, markedly evident in the most recent years, made it necessary to resort to other sources of information, both organizational and personal, for which we reviewed news that appeared in the social media, mainly electronic, participation in professional meetings, private conversations and a modest survey that was circulated among actors in the sector. The assessment of what was obtained led us to agree with the negative view of the inability of Venezuelan agriculture to meet the national demand for food, which has been estimated at 20% of what is required, despite the fact that there are idle capacities due to a set of restrictions unrelated to the activity itself, which need to be urgently corrected if we wish to see a different future. Within the current panorama, agricultural pests are an additional negative element, whose control demands resources that are difficult to obtain, despite the fact that we have the knowledge that would facilitate their approach, if we lived in a different political, economic and social environment.
