Abstract

Panamanian cocoa is considered a star product worldwide, so the main objective of this article is to propose a sustainability model for the cocoa supply chain in Panama. For this reason, surveys were applied to cocoa producers in the Province of Bocas del Toro, where Panama's most significant cocoa production is located. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics to interpret the qualitative aspects. For quantitative elements, a factor analysis (FA) was first carried out with a principal component analysis (PCA) method and with a Varimax orthogonal rotation to identify and group the causes that explain farmers' satisfaction. Then, the hypothesis was validated and verified through Structural Equations. A structural model was generated that shows that we must mainly reinforce certain aspects to achieve the Sustainability of the Cocoa Supply Chain in Panama; it is demonstrated that cooperatives must incentivize the participation of partners in decision-making, among other aspects
