Abstract

Specialized dental care for patients with infectious diseases requires a deep understanding of the human dimensions involved in clinical practice. This qualitative study aimed to interpret the meanings attributed by professionals and patients to humanized management in specialized dentistry, to support the design of an integral model focused on ethical, technical, and human quality. A hermeneutic phenomenological design was used, with semi-structured interviews conducted among professionals and patients from three specialized dental units in the Centro de Atención a Pacientes con Enfermedades Infectocontagiosas. Data was analyzed using thematic coding based on grounded theory procedures. The results revealed that humanized management is constructed through three interdependent dimensions: professional empathy, bidirectional communication, and institutional coherence. However, tensions emerged due to work overload, structural limitations, and the absence of institutional policies promoting humanization as a transversal axis. It is concluded that humanized management in specialized dentistry requires an integral vision grounded in the ethics of care, institutional co-responsibility, and continuous bioethical education.
