Efecto de florpyrauxifen-benzyl en el control de Leptochloa scabra Nees y selectividad en una variedad de arroz Effect of florpyrauxifen-benzyl on control of Leptochloa scabra Nees and selectivity in a rice variety
Main Article Content
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Rough sprangletop (Leptochloa scabraNees) is among
the most problematic grass weed species in Venezuelan
rice production systems due to its high competitive
ability and adaptation to intensive cropping conditions,
which complicate management and can substantially
reduce crop productivity. This study evaluated the
efficacy of florpyrauxifen-benzyl for controlling an L.
scabra accession collected from a rice field in Guárico
State, Venezuela, and assessed herbicide selectivity
in the rice variety ASP 18FL. Two bioassays were
conducted under controlled conditions using a completely randomized design with ten replications: one to evaluate weed control efficacy and another to determine crop selectivity. Florpyrauxifen-benzyl was applied at 30g a.i. ha⁻¹ when plants were at the three- to four-leaf stage. Visual assessments of weed control and crop phytotoxicity were performed at 7, 14, and 21 days after application (DAA), and fresh aboveground biomass was measured at 21 DAA. Leptochloa scabra control reached 83.33%, 97.60%, and 94.80% at 7, 14, and 21 DAA, respectively, with highly significant differences among evaluation times (Friedman test: χ² = 20.00; 2 df; p < 0.001). Herbicide application reduced weed fresh aboveground biomass by 91.1% relative to the untreated control (Kruskal–Wallis:H = 14.31; p < 0.001). No phytotoxicity symptoms were observed in rice, and fresh aboveground biomass did not differ significantly between the untreated control and herbicide-treated plants (ANOVA: F = 2.62; p = 0.123). Florpyrauxifen-benzyl applied at 30 g a.i. ha⁻¹ effectively controlled the evaluated L. scabra accession and was selective in the rice variety ASP 18FL under the conditions of this study, demonstrating its potential as a management alternative for this weed in rice production systems.
