Objective: To establish the effectiveness of the head-abdomen-femur index (CAF) in the evaluation of fetal growth in pregnant women with hypertensive pregnancy disorders that go to the Service of Fetal Maternal Maternity Medicine Conception Palaces, between March and August 2021. Methods: Prospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study that will include a probabilistic sample of 103 patients who, with informed consent, will have a transabdominal ultrasound to determine biometric measures and from them the head-abdomen-femur index will be calculated, classifying the fetus as small, appropriate or large for gestational age. Subsequently, the index will be correlated with the weight of the newborn and the efficacy rates will be calculated. The calculation of weight according to the CAF index showed excellent specificity in all the conditions evaluated, but the sensitivity was low in all cases. For the total group, sensitivity was 41%, specificity 100%, positive predictive value 100% and negative 81%, with a validity of 84%. Conclusion: The CAF index has its greatest diagnostic capacity in fetuses suitable for gestational age (sensitivity of 77.4% with a positive predictive value of 97.3%), as well as the ability to detect fetuses in percentiles of risk with relation to birth weight, that is, fetuses that at birth are in the 10th percentile considered by pediatrics as newborns with a limit weight |
