Objective: To characterize the behavior of the modified Myocardial Performance Index (MPI) in the doppler assessment of complicated fetuses with growth restriction (FGR) in pregnant patients who underwent medical evaluation in the Ultrasound Unit and the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Service of the Maternity “Concepcion Palacios” between August and November 2020. Methods: Prospective, descriptive, cross-sectional, case and control study. It included 30 pregnant women with FGR and 30 with adequate growth. The initial evaluation included: fetal biometry, weight estimation, doppler velocimetry assessment of the uterine arteries, umbilical artery, mean cerebral artery, ductus venosus, and the cerebroplacental ratio. Also fetal echocardiography for MPI measurement. Results: A statistically significant increase (p<0.005) of the values of the modified MPI was observed in FGR group, regardless of gestational age. Pathological MPI values were significantly present, in cases, at gestational ages less than 34 weeks. When analyzing MPI components separately, IVCT and IVRT values increased and the ET was reduced, regardless of age. MPI turned out to be statistically higher in those restricted fetuses that had an altered cerebroplacental ratio, however, there was no correlation between pathological MPI with the different placental fetus doppler parameters. Conclusions: The recommendation to include MPI within the comprehensive assessment of pregnancy with FGR to determine the risk of cardiac dysfunction |
