Tratamiento médico del cáncer de mama

Resumen

El tratamiento médico del cáncer de mama se puede dividir en las siguientes modalidades: coadyuvante,neoadyuvante, tratamiento de la enfermedad metastásica y finalmente quimioprofilaxis. El tratamiento coadyuvante va dirigido a prevenir el desarrollo de la enfermedad,una vez realizado el tratamiento de la enfermedad primaria. Este puede realizarse con hormonoterapia y/o quimioterapia. El tratamiento neo adyuvante tiene como objetivo reducir el tumor primario y disminuir el riesgo de metástasis a distancia. Su efectividad se mide de acuerdo al porcentaje de respuestas patológicas completas. Se usa la quimioterapia u hormonoterapia. La enfermedad metastásica es una enfermedad incurabley su objetivo es prolongar la vida con una buena calidad. Se utiliza la monoquimioterapia, poliquimioterapia, y/uhormonoterapia. La quimioprofilaxis va dirigida aprevenir el desarrollo de cáncer de mama en aquellaspacientes con alto riesgo para su desarrollo. Finalmente, a pesar de todos estos avances, sigue siendo el diagnóstico precoz la piedra angular para garantizar un buenpronóstico.

SUMMARY

Medical treatment of breast cancer can be divided asfollows: adjuvant, neoadjuvant, metastatic disease, andfinally quimioprofilaxis. Adjuvant treatment prevent the developing of the disease, and it is used when the loca ltreatment is completed. Hormono therapy and/or chemotherapy are employed. Neoadjuvant treatment is used toreduce the primary tumor and decrease the risk of distantmetastasis. The effectivity is measured according to thepercentage of pathological complete responses. Chemotherapyor hormonotherapy are also employed. Metastatic disease is incurable and the main objective oftreatment is prolonging survival with a good quality oflife. Monochemotherapy, polychemotherapy andhormonotherapy are used. Quimioprofilaxis is indicatedin patients with high risk of developing breast cancer. Finally, in spite of these great advances, early diagnosis continues to be the main goal to have a good prognosis.
