Mortalidad materna. ¿Meta del milenio alcanzable?

Resumen

El objetivo 5 de las Metas del Milenio señala lanecesidad de su disminución del 75 % de las muertesmaternas para 2015 en relación a las cifras de 1990.Nos hemos propuesto dar a conocer la evolución de esteindicador. A nivel mundial, el reporte de marzo al evaluar75 países prioritarios, encontraron que la muerte maternadescendió en la mayoría, pero 60 presentan cifras altas omuy altas, en 35 ha disminuido 40 % entre 1990-2008, 6están en camino de alcanzar la meta, 33 están haciendoprogreso, pero en 19 países es insuficiente y en 8 no lohay. En América Latina para 2010 hubo un promedio dela razón de muerte materna cercano a 90, distante de lameta final ideal 2015 de 31,3; si tenemos en cuenta queel tiempo remanente se puede inferir que es muy difícilalcanzar las metas previstas. En relación con Venezuela, surazón de muerte materna en los últimos quince años se hamantenido oscilando cercana a 60, lo cual es consideradoalta, su tendencia es plana o tiende a elevarse. El últimoreporte del Boletín Epidemiológico del Ministerio de Salud 2011, señala que sucedió un incremento de 9 % de muertesmaternas en relación al 2010. En suma, conocidos losresultados promedios obtenidos de la razón de muertematerna, parece difícil alcanzar lo inicialmente planificado.Salvo un grupo de países particulares, algunos han logradouna interesante disminución que debe servir de estímulo.Estimamos, que se deberán reorientar objetivos y redoblares fuerzos en busca del bien común.

SUMMARY

Goal 5 of the Millennium Development Goals indicates theneed for reduction of 75 % of maternal mortality for 2015compared to 1990 figures. We intend to present the evolutionof this indicator. Globally, the March report evaluates 75priority countries, where they found that maternal mortalityfell in most, but 60 have high or very high numbers, in 35has decreased 40% between 1990-2008, six are on track toachieve the goal, 33 are making progress, but insufficientin 19 countries and 8 there is not. In Latin America in2010 there was an average maternal mortality ratio closeto 90, far from the ideal final goal by 2015 of 31.3; if weconsider that the remaining time can be inferred that it isvery difficult to achieve the goals previews. RegardingVenezuela, the average maternal mortality ratio in the pastfifteen years there has been fluctuating around 60, which isconsidered high, the trend is flat or rising. The latest reportof the Epidemiological Bulletin of the Ministry of Health2011, says it happened an increase of 9 % of the maternalmortality in relation to 2010. In sum, with the known averageresults obtained of the maternal mortality ratio, it seemsdifficult to achieve those originally planned, except for agroup of individual countries, where some have made aninteresting reduction wich should serve as a stimulus. Webelieve that goals should be refocus and redouble effortsshould be done for the common good.
