Aún cuando diferentes disciplinas socialesy humanísticas como la historia, las artesy la sociología han teorizado sobre el papelde la mujer en sociedades del pasado (mayormenteen sociedades históricas), las representacionesantropomorfas mediantes figurinas, muñecos,esculturas y otros medidos son elementoso documentos culturales presentes desdelos orígenes de la humanidad que relatana los arqueólogos el rol de los diferentesgéneros en el pasado.
