Abstract

Summary
Skin cancer is among the most common malignant pathologies in men and
women. A large amount of resources are allocated in both public and private
healthcare to prevent, diagnose, and treat this disease. The available information
on epidemiological data in Venezuela is very scarce; therefore, the Venezuelan
Society of Medical, Surgical, and Aesthetic Dermatology, through its Skin Cancer
Registry Commission, created a digital database, available online, to enable
society members to record data on skin cancer cases for academic and scientific
research purposes. A total of 718 skin cancer case records were included;
88,45% corresponded to non-melanoma skin cancer cases and 11,55% to
malignant melanoma cases. The different histopathological varieties were
reported for basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant
melanoma, as well as other important specific variables such as Breslow score
at the time of diagnosis in malignant melanoma cases. The constant updating of
the registry and the ability to access data in real time provide valuable, up-to-date
information for academic and research purposes.
