Abstract

The early diagnosis of malignant melanoma is one of the great challenges in the practice of dermatology. Dermatoscopy is a non invasive technique that allows to observe, evalúate, and analyze in vivo the superficial microscopic structures of the skin. This technique has proved to be useful for an early diagnosis, improving in 5% to 35% the capacity for diagnosing malignant melanoma. In this study the main aspects and characteristics of the use of dermatoscopy for the diagnosis of malignant melanoma are revised.
