MANUEL PIAR: CAUDILLO DE DOS COLORES. LA NOVELA HISTÓRICA DE FRANCISCO HERRERA LUQUE

Abstract

ABSTRACT
The historical novel escapes the plain textual and structural analysis. The literary referent is constructed on the base of the historical discourse and at the same time, this one is based on the real referent. In consequence, the attachment with the context is determinant. Also, in this paper, the “dispositives” that put in motion the historical novel through the analysis of Herrera Luque’s (1987) Manuel Piar, caudillo de dos colores are addressed. Basic notions of narratology, pragmatics and even aesthetics of the reception are also used. It is essential to answer to these questions: Is the author able, by good means, to interpret History at his will? Is it possible for him to handle historical characters as he pleases without any sort of restriction, that is to say, those who have a real referent?
