CAPACIDAD E IGUALDAD (UNA EVALUACIÓN DE LOS DISTINTOS ENFOQUES IGUALITARISTAS CONTEMPORÁNEOS COMO FORMA DE APROXIMACIÓN INDIRECTA A LA PERSPECTIVA DE LA CAPACIDAD DE SEN)

Abstract

La perspectiva de la capacidad no ha sido expuesta sistemática-mente en una publicación central, sino que se halla dispersa en el conjunto de artículos y conferencias a través de las cuales Sen ha ido definiendo los distintos elementos que han ido dando forma a su posición. El presente artículo pretende ensayar una forma de acercamiento a dicha perspectiva, tomando como hilo conductor el marco analítico particular donde tuvo origen, esto es, la evaluación de la igualdad o desigualdad en los distintos arreglos sociales, para recorrer las distancias y/o cercanías que Sen esta-blece entre su enfoque y las distintas posiciones teóricas igualitaristas que participan en la discusión contemporánea. Este recorrido genera un con-junto de exigencias que el enfoque de la capacidad tendrá que satisfacer, y cuya exposición tiene la ventaja de ofrecer una comprensión indirecta del mismo.

Abstract: The capacity approach has not been systematically displayed in a central text but is spread in a set of articles and speeches, through which Sen has been progressively defining aims at applying the different elements shaping his position. The present article an approach to Sen´s perspective, taking as its thread the particular analytic frame where it was originated, that is, the equality/inequality evaluation in different social settings. We will examine the criticisms and affinities between Sen´s approach and the different egalitarian approaches within the contemporary discussion. As a result, a set of challenges for the capacity approach arises. Displaying this set of challenges explicitly provides an indirect comprehension of this approach.
