La comunidad científica venezolana celebra dos importantes aniversarios en 2011: 225 años del nacimiento de José María Vargas y el centenario del natalicio de Tobías Lasser. En este artículo se compara la vida profesional y los logros de estos dos eminentes médicos y botánicos venezolanos.

The Venezuelan scientific community celebrates two important anniversaries in 2011: 225 years of the birthday of José María Vargas, and the birth centennial of Tobías Lasser. In this paper the professional lives and achievements of these two eminent physicians
and botanists are exposed and compared.
