CONFIABILIDAD DEL USO DE LA FORMULA DE FRIEDEWALD EN LA ESTIMACION DE LOS INDICES DE RIESGO ATEROSCLEROTICO

Abstract

Reliability in estimating LDL-cholesterol using the Friedewald formula for the calculation of atheroescierotic risk ratios. ClIn. 31 (4):177-188,1990.— To estimate the reliability of LDL—Cholesterol (LDL—C) obtained by using Friedewald formula and its subsequent aplication to calculate the atheroesclerotic riskratios, 68 adult patient over 30 years of age, with triglyceride values under 400 mg/dl were studied. Serum concentrations of cholesterol (Col—T), Triglyceride (TG) and IIDL—cholesterol (IIDL—C) were determinated and an electrophoretic analysis of poproteins was perform Estimated values of LDL—C obtained by use of the Friedewald formula were compared with values derived from the electrophoretic fractiona­tion. Both were similar• Using l)elong’s ratio and comparing both estimated values diferences were observed. The estimated LI)L—C was in the atherosclerotic risk ratio: LDL—C/HDL—C and compared with another risk ratio Col—T/HDL-C. Statistical differences were observed in the hyperlipidemia type II-B and IV; however, in the hyperlipidemia type 11-A the ratios were similar.
