| Abstract: | Determinar el rango de valores normales del ángulo escafolunar de una serie de pacientes, que acuden al servicio de cirugía de la mano del Hospital Universitario de Caracas. Métodos: Estudio descriptivo de corte transversal realizado en el Hospital Universitario de Caracas, durante la segunda mitad del 2011, que incluyó el estudio de ambas muñecas de 50 pacientes adultos sin sintomatología o antecedentes de lesión en muñeca, elegidos al azar. Resultados: Se obtuvo valores del ángulo escafolunar que oscilaron entre 37 y 58°, con una media 46,5° para el lado dominante y 46,6° para el lado no dominante. No hubo diferencia estadísticamente significativa al comparar el ángulo escafolunar con el lado dominante de la mano, edad o sexo de los pacientes. Conclusiones: Los valores del ángulo escafolunar reportados en la literatura son similares a los encontrados en este estudio, si bien el rango entre los valores mínimo y máximo es menor en esta investigación. Adicionalmente, no hay diferencias en el valor de dicho ángulo con respecto a la edad, sexo o lado dominante de la mano. |
| Description: | To determine the range of normal scapholunate angle of a sample of patients attending the service of hand surgery at the University Hospital of Caracas. Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study conducted at the University Hospital of Caracas, during the second half of 2011, which included the study of both wrists in 50 adult patients without symptoms or a history of wrist injury, randomly selected. Results: The scapholunate angle values ranging between 37 and 58°, mean 46.5° for the dominant side and 46.6° for the nondominant side. There was no statistically significant difference when comparing the scapholunate angle with the dominant side of the hand, age or sex of the patients. Conclusions: The scapholunate angle values reported in the literature are similar to those found in this study, although the range between the minimum and maximum values is lower in this research. Furthermore, no differences in the value of this angle with respect to age, sex or dominant hand side. |
