| Abstract: | Objetivo: comparar las diferentes clasificaciones aplicadas a los casos de retinoblastoma, recibidos en la Sección de Oftalmopatología del Instituto Anatomopatológico “Dr. José Antonio O’Daly” de la Universidad Central de Venezuela, mediante el criterio de reproducibilidad y la presencia de factores pronósticos reconocidos en la literatura. Método: se seleccionaron 119 casos de retinoblastoma que cumplían con los criterios de inclusión y se aplicó a cada uno las clasificaciones (Grabowski, Howarth e Internacional) por 3 patólogos diferentes. Resultados: Aplicando la matriz de cálculo del coeficiente Kappa de Fleiss en los casos evaluados con la clasificación de Howarth, se obtuvo un valor k = 0,4934 con la clasificación de Grabowski el valor del Kappa para variabilidad interobservador fue de k = 0,6025 y con la clasificación Internacional, el valor de Kappa fue de k = 0,5306. Conclusiones: La mayoría de casos corresponden al sexo masculino. Más del 50% del total de los casos son menores de 24 meses de edad. El 63,07% de los casos correspondieron al ojo izquierdo. La variabilidad interobservador fue moderada para las tres clasificaciones. La clasificación considerada más adecuada para la Sección de Patología Ocular del Instituto de Anatomía Patológica “Dr. José A. O’Daly” es la Clasificación Internacional. |
| Description: | HISTOPATHOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATIONS APPLIED TO RETINOBLASTOMAS: COMPARATIVE STUDY Objective: To compare different classifications applied to retinoblastoma cases, received at the Ocular Pathology Section of Institute of Pathology "Dr. Jose Antonio O'Daly " in Central University of Venezuela, by the criterion of reproducibility and the presence of recognized prognostic factors in the literature. Methods: we selected 119 cases of retinoblastoma that met the inclusion criteria and applied each classification (Grabowski, Howarth and International) by three different pathologists. Results: applying the calculation of the coefficient matrix of 2 Fleiss Kappa evaluated where the classification of Howarth, a value was obtained with k = 0.4934 Grabowski classification Kappa value for interobserver variability was k = 0.6025 and International classification, the value of Kappa was k = 0.5306. Conclusions: Most of the patients were males. More than half of the patients were between 0 and 24 months. Left eyes represented the 63.07% of the biopsies. Interobserver variability was “moderate” for all three classifications. We consider the most adequate classification for the Ocular Pathology Section of Institute of Pathology "Dr. Jose Antonio O'Daly" is International Classification. |
