| Abstract: | Se colectaron muestras foliares de plantas de cuarentona provenientes de
algunas localidades del estado Aragua, cuyas hojas presentaban manchas
necróticas abundantes de 1-20 mm de diámetro o más, con un margen clorótico
sobre la mayor parte del follaje. De las hojas con los síntomas descritos se aisló
consistentemente una bacteria que produjo colonias de color amarillo, las cuales
resultaron patogénicas al ser inoculadas en plantas sanas de cuarentona. La
bacteria fue Gram negativa, aeróbica y con forma de bastón. De acuerdo a estas
y otras características morfológicas, fisiológicas y bioquímicas, se identificó a la
bacteria como Xanthomonas campestris pv. zinniae, siendo el primer reporte de
este patógeno para Venezuela. |
| Description: | Foliar samples of zinnia plants from some localities of Aragua state were
collected whose leaves showed abundant necrotic spots on most of the foliage with
a diameter of 1-20 mm with chlorotic edges. From leaves with the described
symptoms was consistently isolated a bacteria that was pathogenic when inoculated
on healthy zinnia plants, reproducing the symptoms observed on the infected
zinnia plants on the field. The bacteria was a Gram negative rod, aerobic,
and based on the morphological, biochemical and physiological characteristics, it
was identified as Xanthomonas campestris pv. zinnia, being for Venezuela the
first report of this pathogen |
