Method: it is a descriptive, observational, retrospective (since the data was obtained randomly) and monocentric study. Patients admitted with a diagnosis of uncomplicated inguinal hernia who underwent open inguinal hernioplasty were evaluated. The data were obtained through the clinical history and by telephone with the patient. Results: A total of 300 medical records were reviewed, each of the patients was contacted by telephone, of which 230 (76.67%) of the studied universe attended, remaining 70 patients, who could not be contacted (23, 33%). Of the 230 patients, 211 males (91.74%) and 19 females (8.26%) were obtained. The mean age of these 230 patients was between 57-66 years (27.39%). The cases of recurrence reported were 36, of which Rutkow-Robbins was applied to 28 patients (77.78%), and Gilbert patients to 8 (22.22%); the Lichtenstein technique did not present recurrences. It was evidenced that the majority of patients with recurrence were hypertensive and older adults. Conclusion: The recurrence rate of open inguinal hernioplasties at the Vargas Hospital in Caracas was high compared to the worldwide rate (0.5-2%), representing 15% of the study populationen_US
