| dc.description.sponsorship | ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the relationship of cardiovascular risk factors: hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes and with the results of COVID-19 in terms of evolution and hospitalization time. Methods: Retrospective, descriptive and cross-sectional study of patients with a confirmed diagnosis of SARS-Cov-2 infection in the hospitalization ward of the internal medicine and cardiology services of the Vargas Hospital in Caracas (March 2020 to December 2021). The sample was intentional and non-probabilistic, made up of 246 patients, divided into two groups: 126 deceased and 120 alive. Statistical analysis was performed using Cox regression models and Kaplan-Meier curves. A significant value was considered p < 0.05. The data was tabulated with STATA 17. Results: A prevalence of 30% mortality from COVID-19 was reported in the study period. The mean age was 63 ± 13 years and the majority were male (57%). The risk of mortality was associated with a sedentary lifestyle [RR=8.44 (p = 0.001)], CKD [RR=4.77 (p = 0.001)], alcoholic habit [RR=3.23 (p = 0.007)], diabetes [RR=2.57 (p=0.015)], age >55 years [RR=1.80 (p=0.047)], moderate COVID-19 diagnosis was a protective factor [RR=0.35 (p = 0.001)]. Median survival was 12 weeks, with a 49% probability of death. Conclusion: The identification of predictors of mortality (age > 55 years, sedentary lifestyle, alcohol, COVID-moderate, CKD and diabetes) allowed patients to be stratified to adapt clinical care protocols to these findings, thus improving medical decisions | en_US |
