Concepto de maternidad, experiencia de la feminidad y autoconcepto en un grupo de mujeres residentes en Caracas que han decidido no ser madres.

Abstract

Resumen La feminidad ha sido definida muchas veces en torno a los roles de género. Socialmente se espera que la mujer cumpla con ciertas actitudes, rasgos afectivos y funciones. Las más destacadas de esas funciones se engloban en dos palabras: madres y esposas. La presente investigación tuvo como finalidad dar a conocer el concepto de la maternidad, la experiencia de la feminidad y el autoconcepto en un grupo de cuatro mujeres que han decidido no ser madres. Se empleó el estudio de casos para lograr una comprensión significativa de las dimensiones de estudio, mediante la entrevista semiestructurada a profundidad, el Test de Apercepción Temática (TAT) y el Inventario Multifásico de Personalidad Minnesota 2 (MMPI-2). Los hallazgos de este estudio apuntan hacia la presencia de un autoconcepto positivo, consideración de la maternidad como un compromiso que amerita mucha responsabilidad, la distinción entre ser madre y ser mujer, presiones sociales respecto a la maternidad, así como la dificultad para que algunas de las parejas aceptasen la decisión de no ser madres de las participantes. Abstract Femininity has been defined many times around gender roles. Socially, the woman is expected to comply with certain attitudes, affective traits and functions. The most outstanding of these functions are encompassed in two words: mothers and wives. The purpose of this research was to present the concept of motherhood, the experience of femininity and selfconcept in a group of four women who have decided not to be mothers. Case study was used to achieve a significant understanding of the study dimensions, through the semi-structured in-depth interview, the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory 2 (MMPI-2). The findings of this study point to the presence of a positive self-concept, consideration of motherhood as a commitment that deserves a lot of responsibility, the distinction between being a mother and being a woman, social pressures regarding motherhood, as well as the difficulty for some of the couples accepted the decision not to be the mothers of the participants.
