Abstract: The presence of Acrylamide (ACR), in foods of the daily diet, has encouraged the search of strategies to protect against the action of this potential hematotoxic agent. In the present work the aqueous extract of A. dubius L., a plant known as pyre, of high antioxidant potential and recognized for its invaluable nutritional value, has been proposed as a possible protective agent. Young adult zebrafish Danio rerio, were subjected to the LC50 of ACR, 2.80 mM, for 24 hours at room temperature. Another group of fish was treated, in the same conditions, with increasing concentrations of aqueous extract of A.dubius L fresh leaves, ranging between 2 to 16 mg / ml, with or without the presence of ACR. After the treatment, the fish were anesthetized by hypothermia and the extraction of the peripheral blood was performed, which was analyzed through blood spreads. They were analyzed with Feulgen staining and cell death signals were recorded with Acridine Orange. ACR promoted a significant increase p <0.05, in the percentage of neutrophils and monocytes as well as a significant decrease in lymphocytes; Whereas those cells did not show significant changes with the aqueous extract of A.dubius L, relative to the control values. The same situation was registered in the blood spreads from the combined treatment. Erythrocytes, as the largest recorded population, showed marked hypochromic and nuclear fragmentation. The aqueous extract of A.dubius L was found to be non-lethal, even at the highest concentrations. The morphological changes in the erythrocyte population were not observed in the cells of the combined treatment ACR + A.dubius L. The obtained results demonstrate the hematoprotective potential of this plant against the hematotoxic action of the ACR.
