| dc.description | Objective: To evaluate the clinical and paraclinical of patients diagnosed with acute pyogenic osteomyelitis at the Pediatric Hospital Dr. Elias Toro during the period 1998 - 2008. Methods: The study population consists of patients hospitalized in the Dr. Elias Toro Children's Hospital during the period January 1998 - December 2008 with diagnosis of acute pyogenic osteomyelitis. The research sample consists of 28 patients and a method of non-experimental research, descriptive and retrospective applied. Results and discussion: sex was the most prevalent with 53,6 % male; the most affected age group 28,6 % were infants; the longer hospital stay to 15 days represents 75 % of the population; average maximum normalization days 30 days laboratory; 100 % showed signs and symptoms such as pain, enlargement, redness and functional limitation, only 57,1 % had fever; income radiological findings only 42,9 % showed altered image; 54 % had no history of trauma; the antibiotic of choice at admission was oxacillin; of the study population 71,4 % received surgical treatment; the most affected anatomic site was the tibia and femur with a 21,4 % and 17,9 % respectively; the most common etiologic agent was staphylococcus aureus 50 %. Conclusion: The evaluation of the clinical and paraclinical allow us to correctly identify and treat cases of osteomyelitis in the pediatric population. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | Objetivo: evaluar las características clínicas y paraclínicas de los pacientes con diagnóstico de osteomielitis piógena aguda en el hospital pediátrico Dr. Elías Toro durante el período de 1998 - 2008. Métodos: la población objeto de estudio está constituida por los pacientes hospitalizados en el hospital pediátrico Dr. Elías Toro, durante el período enero 1998 – diciembre 2008 con diagnostico de osteomielitis piógena aguda. La muestra de la investigación está conformada por 28 pacientes y se aplicará un método de investigación no experimental, tipo descriptivo y retrospectivo. Resultados y discusión: el sexo con mayor prevalencia fue el masculino con 53,6 %; el grupo etario más afectado fueron lactantes 28,6 %; la estancia hospitalaria mayor a 15 días representa el 75 % de la población; la normalización de laboratorio máximo a los 30 días; el 100 % presentó signos y síntomas como dolor, aumento de volumen, enrojecimiento y limitación funcional, solo un 57,1 % presentó fiebre; los hallazgos radiológicos al ingreso solo un 42,9 % presentó imagen alterada; el 54 % no presentaban antecedentes traumáticos; el antibiótico usado de elección al ingreso fue la oxacilina; de la población en estudio el 71,4 % recibieron tratamiento quirúrgico; el sitio anatómico más afectado fue la tibia y fémur con un 21,4 % y 17,9 % respectivamente; el agente etológico más frecuente fue el Staphylococcus aureus con un 50 %. Conclusión: la evaluación de las características clínicas y paraclínicas permite identificar y tratar correctamente los casos de osteomielitis en la población pediátrica. | en_US |
