| Abstract: | La región caribeña presenta déficits en el sector energético y alta
dependencia de combustibles fósiles por poca diversificación en fuentes
de energía. El alto precio del petróleo y sus derivados en el mercado
internacional impacta negativamente la competitividad de las economías
caribeñas. Con base en lo anterior el gobierno venezolano se apalancó en su potencial energético para impulsar una alianza regional en materia
petrolera. En esta investigación se describe la política de proyección del
Socialismo Venezolano a través de PetroCaribe durante el período 2005- 2011, partiendo de cuatro teorías de las relaciones internacionales: neorrealismo, constructivismo social, estructuralismo y teoría crítica. Asimismo, en el periodo de estudio 2005-2011 se evalúa el alcance del acuerdo en lo político, económico, social y geoestratégico. |
| Description: | The Caribbean region has a deficit in the energy sector and a high dependence on fossil fuels due to its lack of diversification on energy sources. The high prices of oil and its derivatives in the international market have a negative impact in the competitiveness of the Caribbean economies. Based on this premise, Venezuelan government used its energy potential in order to promote a regional oil alliance. The foregoing investigation describes the projection policy of Venezuelan Socialism through “PetroCaribe” between 2005 and 2011 from four theories of international relations: neo-realism, social constructivism, structuralism and critical theory. Furthermore, the significance of this agreement in the political, economic, social and geostrategic fields during the aforementioned period is evaluated in this investigation |
