| Abstract: | RESUMEN Con el propósito de comparar las estructuras comunitarias de peces en ríos tropicales se estudió la composición taxonómica,abundancia relativa y frecuencia de aparición de las especies en ríos de morichal y un río llanero de aguas blancas. Estos ecosistemas presentan características particulares que los diferencian en cuanto a factores bióticos, abióticos, y dinámica hídrica entre otros. Los ríos de morichal presentan una mayor riqueza en peces en comparación con el río llanero en áreas geográficas cercanas; los primeros se caracterizan por presentar especies constantes y poco abundantes, mientras que para el río llanero las especies raras alcanzan un 66% del total. La familia Characidae resultó la más diversa y abundante para ambos ambien-tes. La importancia de la conservación de estos ríos es discutida ABSTRACT Aspects of the fish community such as: composition, relative abundance frequency, structure and taxonomic composition were studied from samples taken in two different river types from the easter region of Venezuela: the morichal and llanos rivers were done to compared due their own particu-lar biotic, abiotic and hydrological characteristics. The “morichal” rivers were characterized by a greater richness and constancy in comparison with llanos river from similar geographical location, while llanos rivers are characterized by species rarity (66%). The family Characidae is well represented in both systems. A discussion of the importance of conservation of these rivers is presented |
