| Abstract: | La modernización en Venezuela ha sido moldeada por el sistema democrático desde que fue establecido en 1958. Sin embargo, se han producido cambios sustanciales en el ambiente político, a raíz de la crisis económica que azotó al país a finales de los años 80. Este artículo pretende discutir dos hipótesis acerca de la naturaleza de dichos cambios. En primer lugar, sugiere la emergencia de un poderoso actor colectivo al margen del sistema político; en segundo lugar, conjetura que algunos cánones de la cultura venezolana, tales como la noción mística de la historia, impregnan y moldean el discurso del nuevo actor político. |
| Description: | The modernization of Venezuela has been shaped by succesive democratic regimes since 1958. However, since the late 1980´s a crisis has gripped the country and has produced substantial changes in the political arena. This article discusses two hypotheses about the nature of those changes. First, it suggests the emergence, from the fringes of the political system, of a powerful collective actor and secondly, it conjectures that some canonic themes of Venezuelan culture, such as a mythical nocion of history, are shaping the discourse of the new political actors. |
