SISTEMA DE PRODUCCIÓN CON BOVINOS DE CARNE EN LA ESTACIÓN EXPERIMENTAL “LA CUMACA” II.- PESO A LOS 205 DÍAS

En este segundo artículo de la serie, se evalúa el carácter peso corregido por edad a los 205 días de los becerros del rebaño Brahman registrado de la Estación Experimental La Cumaca Alí Benavides Zapata, ubicada en el estado Yaracuy, Venezuela. Se dispuso de 4715 pesos a los 205 días que fueron analizados por Modelos Mixtos (incluyendo un Modelo Animal) para evaluar los efectos de sexo del becerro, año de nacimiento, mes de nacimiento, edad de la madre al parto, padre y madre del becerro. El promedio global  de peso fue de 158,6±0,76 kg. Todos los efectos fueron significativos (p<0,01), estimándose una tendencia fenotípica anual de 100 g, una tendencia genética directa de 236 g y una materna de 178 g. Los índices de herencia directo y materno fueron de 0,11 y 0,24. Las vacas producieron becerros más pesados al destete hasta el cuarto parto y, a partir de allí, comenzaron a declinar.

Abstract

In this second article, the character adjusted to age  205 days, was the evaluated in a registered Brahman herd located at La Cumaca Alí Benavides Zapata Experimental Station, in State of Yaracuy, Venezuela. A total of 4715 weights measured at 205 days were analized using  mixed models techniques (including an Animal Model). The following variables were studied: sex, year and month of birth, age of dam, and sire and dam effects. The results of the present investigation show overall average weight of 158.6 ± 0.76  kg. All effects were significant (p<0.01), yielding an annual phenotipic trend of 100 g, a direct genetic trend of  236 g, and a maternal trend one of 178g, correspondingly. The direct and maternal heritability indexes were 0.11 and 0.24, respectively. Cows produced heavier calves from first to fourth parturition, declining from there.
