Los símbolos políticos bajo el Nuevo Ideal Nacional

Resumen

Los símbolos tienen una utilidad muy especial dentro del ámbito de la política y es que permiten brindarle cohesión al cuerpo social; además, se transforman en medios para transmitir y dar a conocerlas ideas que inspiran y sustentan a un gobierno en particular. En esta medida son capaces, a su vez,de dar a conocer sus obras y su legado, propiciando consecuentemente el apoyo de las masas. Son herramientas poderosas, que despiertan respuestas emocionales muy fuertes en torno a las cuales se genera la integración social o, también en sentido contrario, pueden despertar sentimientos de rechazo que llevan a la disgregación del tejido social. En el ámbito de la política, estas representaciones se construyen y enriquecen a través del discurso político. Durante el gobierno de Marcos Pérez Jiménez, inspirado por el Nuevo Ideal Nacional, hubo un esfuerzo discursivo por construir los que serían los símbolos políticos de este régimen militar, con el fin de conseguir el apoyo social del que carecía un Gobierno de facto y de tipo autoritario. A pesar de que no siempre cumplieron su cometido, son representaciones asequibles a nuestro conocimiento que permiten valorar la utilidad que puede tener un símbolo político. Por otro lado, estas representaciones permiten aproximarnos desde un punto de vista diferente al gobierno del general Pérez Jiménez, para conocer otros aspectos.

Political Symbols under the New National Ideal

Abstract

Symbols are especially useful in politics and help polities become cohesive. Also, they act as a means to spread and voice the ideas inspiring and supporting a particular government. In this sense, they are able to disseminate its works and legacy gaining the support of the masses. They are powerful tools that awaken very strong emotional responses, accountable for the rise of social integration. Otherwise, they can produce rejection leading to a disintegration of the social fabric. In the realm of politics, these representations are constructed and enriched through political discourse. During the government of Marcos Pérez Jiménez, there was a discourse effort inspired by the New National Ideal to construct the would-be political symbols of this military regimein order to gain the people’s support that this de facto and authoritarian government lacked. Although they did not always accomplish their goal, these are representations accessible to our knowledge, and allow for the valuation of a political symbol. On the other hand, these representations facilitate the adoption of an approach different from that of General Marcos Pérez Jiménez’s administration to learn other aspects.
