Resumen

El proceso de transformación de la Universidad Colonial venezolana hacia el modelo republicano, adoptado progresivamente desde principios del siglo XIX, se correspondió con los cambios ocurridos en el contexto europeo y americano al calor de la crisis del siglo XVIII. La crítica inestabilidad política y militar empujó hacia una modalidad cesarista en la adopción del proyecto liberal, especialmente en el caso de las reformas educativas y, en particular, del sistema universitario. La Universidad centralizada y atada a un sistema educativo tutelado por el Estado y al servicio del progreso liberal, según fuere el actor controlador del poder de turno. En este sentido, la Universidad de Caracas asumió una configuración centralizada y liberal bajo la tutela del poder e intereses de los gobiernos republicanos.

Abstract:
The transformation of the Venezuelan colonial university to the Republican model, adopted progressively from the early nineteenth century, corresponded to changes in the European and American context under the XVIII crisis. The critical political and military instability pushed a Caesarian mode in adopting the liberal project, especially in the case of educational reforms and in particular, the university system. The university was centralized and tied to an educational system protected by the state and in the service of a liberal progress, depending on the controller actor power shift. In this sense, the University of Caracas assumed a centralized and liberal configuration under the tutelage of power and interests of the Republican governments.
