Abstract

Abstract

The effects of several rates of vinasse on the soil exchangeable potassium content were evaluated during three consecutive harvesting seasons (plant, first ratoon and second ratoon). The experiment was established using a randomized block desing with four replications. Treatments consisted in 5 vinasse dosis (V0 = no vinasse, V1= 25 m3.ha-1, V2= 50 m3.ha-1, V3= 75 m3. ha-1 and V4=100 m3.ha-1 of vinasse). The aplication of vinasse significatively increased the exchangeable potassium content of the first 20 cm, however the increment was lower in plant than in the following two ratoon. The high potassium fixation capacity of the soil plus the residual accumulation process, due to the continuous vinasse application during three consecutive harvesting seasons causes an increase in the level of exchangeable potassium with time. The level of exchangeable potassium at a depth of 20-60 cm did not increased during the experiment due to a lack of lixiviation of this nutrient.

Key words: vinasse, exchangeable potassium, sugar cane, fertilization, Venezuela.
