EL VIAJE Y LA HISTORIA EN CROSSING THE RIVER DE CARYL PHILLIPS

Abstract

El siguiente trabajo examina la relación entre historia y ficción, sobre la base de la lectura de la novela Crossing the River (1993), de Caryl Phillips. En el texto se tratan temas como la esclavitud, la explotación, el desencanto, y algunas estrategias narrativas que activan la maquinaria ficcional de la obra, como mecanismo que devela cierto maniqueísmo en la interpretación de algunos hechos históricos mantenidos por la historiografía oficial.

ABSTRACT
This paper examines the relation between story and fiction, on the basis of the reading of Caryl Phillips’s novel Crossing The River. Herein, we analyze topics such as slavery, disillusionment and some fiction strategies which actives the fictional machine of the work paper. These topics also reveal some Manichaeism in the interpretation of some historical facts supported by the official historiography.
