ABSTRACT
Virgilio Piñera´s literary work, within the context of the Orígenes Group and the Cuban literature of his time, represents an isolated poetry. Supported by a delirium speech that explores emptiness and nothingness, along side impressive metaphors and rich oxymorons, it contents "The Cuban way of absurd existentialism". In his poems, Piñera rescues the image of "his" island in order to draw from it, without any intention, a whole "insular teleology", the one that José Lezama Lima, as the leader of the Group, have asked other "origenist" poets to write about, but that only Piñera, without ignoring the insane historical reality of his nation and his love/horror relationship with it, was able to achieve. From Piñera's Las furias (1941) to his Una broma colosal (1988), the poetry of this author offers a different and exciting reading of the Cuban insular soul.
