Editorial Ethics

All articles submitted to Acta Científica Estudiantil will undergo peer review, with the exception of letters to the editor. Acta Científica Estudiantil will only accept manuscripts that have not been previously published and are not currently in any stage of the editorial process at another journal, unless one of the exceptions outlined in the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals” developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) applies. The following are considered ethical violations: plagiarism, improper authorship, redundant or duplicate publication, and data fabrication.

The procedure to be followed in the event that any of these or other ethical irregularities are detected will be governed by the guidelines established in the Code of Conduct of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and by the recommendations set forth in the article “Ethical Irregularities in Scientific Production and Dissemination. Policies of Acta Científica Estudiantil, SOCIEM-UCV, and SOCIEO-UCV,” published in Volume 8, Issue 3 of Acta Científica Estudiantil.

All manuscripts must be submitted along with a “Letter of Authorship” that must include: the authors’ names, the title and type of article to be considered, a statement confirming that the article is original and has not been published or submitted for consideration to another journal, and the digital signatures of all authors. Submissions of case reports must also be accompanied by the patient’s informed consent.

Open Access Charges and Policies

All articles accepted and published in Acta Científica Estudiantil (ACE) are fully open access: they are immediately and freely available for reading, downloading and distribution under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license.

Article publication charges (APC)

To maintain the platform's infrastructure, digital preservation, indexing, and direct assignment of digital object identifiers (DOIs), ACE applies an Article Publication Charge (APC).

Standard APC: US$10 per accepted manuscript.
Submission or peer review fees: US$0 ( ACE does not charge any submission or evaluation fees ).

Payment of the Application Processing Charge (APC) is only required after a manuscript has successfully passed peer review and received formal editorial acceptance. Payment is a prerequisite for final publication, in accordance with our rolling publication model.

Institutional agreements, exemptions and discretionary discounts

ACE is committed to fostering scholarly participation while maintaining operational sustainability. Financial support, discretionary discounts, or full waivers are granted following rigorous editorial review.

 Institutional alliances and affiliations

Authors affiliated with certain partner institutions, affiliated academic bodies, or collaborative programs may have their APC partially or fully subsidized, subject to current inter-institutional agreements and the specific terms of the campaign in force at the time of acceptance.

Editorial acknowledgment and contributions

Partial discounts or exemptions may be granted at the sole discretion of the Editorial Board in recognition of active contributions to the journal's academic community (such as distinguished peer review service), invited submissions, or selected collaborative scholarly initiatives.

Discretionary review

Due to our low-cost APC structure, waivers and financial adjustments are not automatic and are handled on an exceptional, case-by-case basis during manuscript processing. Eligibility inquiries should be submitted during initial processing; the final decision rests with the sole editorial authority and is subject to the availability of funds.

Bilingual publishing policy and language services

To ensure international visibility and compliance with indexing requirements, ACE operates as a bilingual journal, publishing content in both Spanish and English. Upon acceptance of the manuscript, the corresponding author must guarantee an accredited English version through one of the following methods:

Professional translation provided by the author

The authors submit an independently certified translation, subject to quality validation by the ACE editorial team.

Internal editorial translation service

Authors may opt for ACE's Professional Academic Translation Service, with a processing surcharge of US$5.

The publication will take place once both language versions have been finalized and the corresponding service or publishing fees have been paid.
