Introduction: Dyslipidemia is a global public health problem that affects millions of people and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death worldwide. The epidemiology of dyslipidemia varies by region, age, sex, and ethnicity and is influenced by genetic and environmental factors. Objective: Determine the incidence of lipid profile alterations in patients who attended the endocrinology service of the Dr. Carlos Arvelo military university hospital. Materials and Methods: Retrospective study, of a descriptive nature, whose sample was 640 patients who attended the endocrinology consultation of the Dr. Carlos Arvelo Military University Hospital in the period 2020-2023. Results: The sex in which it occurred most frequently was Female with 76%. The age group in which it occurred most frequently was between 60-69 years with 229 cases (36%), preceded by the group of 50-59 with a frequency of 162 cases (25%). It is observed that the most frequent psychobiological habits were tobacco and alcohol with 11% and 10% respectively, among the most frequent diagnoses in our sample were type 2 diabetes mellitus with 57% followed by high blood pressure with 305 46%, hypothyroidism with 23%, we found that a large number of patients were overweight (37%), followed by normal weight and grade I obesity with 166 and 164 respectively (26%), Regarding the alterations in the lipid profile we found that the most frequent diagnosis was mixed dyslipidemia with 54% followed by hypercholesterolemia 30% and hypertriglyceridemia 16%. Regarding the levels of high and low density lipoproteins we found that the most frequent alteration was led by HDL low with 37%, followed by high HDL and high LDL and low HDL and high LDL with 166 and 164 cases respectively for 26%. Regarding the relationship of the base pathologies we find that both hypothyroidism, type 2 diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension, the alteration of the lipid profile was mixed dyslipidemia. Conclusions: Given the high incidence of obesity and poor diet, in addition to the increase in pathologies such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, among others, it is necessary to know the frequency of appearance of lipid profile disorders in those patients who have or who comply with the risk factors for developing complications derived from lipid alterations.
