Autoestima y autoconcepto en adolescentes con indicadores de ortorexia.

Abstract

Este trabajo investiga cómo es la autoimagen y el autoconcepto en una muestra de sujetos con indicadores de ortorexia. Se propone explorar y describir la presencia de ambos constructos y la tendencia a padecer ortorexia en un conjunto de adolescentes. El universo se conforma por un grupo de jóvenes con edades entre los 16 y 22 años, de ambos sexos, residentes del área metropolitana de Caracas, a los cuales se les aplica el Test Orto-15, y según los resultados obtenidos se constituye la muestra, a la cual se le suministra el Test de Imagen Corporal de Gardner, la Escala de Medición de Percepción Corporal de Castro y Colás, la Escala de Autopercepción de Imagen Corporal de Montero y la Escala de Autoestima de Rosemberg, además de una entrevista semi-estructurada y el Test de Figura Humana. Se utilizan los porcentajes y las frecuencias, acompañado de un análisis categórico y descriptivo para las entrevistas, el Test Orto-15 y Figura Humana. Se encontraron marcadas tendencias obsesivas en estos jóvenes. También que los chicos se sienten más insatisfechos con su imagen corporal que las chicas, por lo que la critican frecuentemente y buscan aumentar su masa muscular.

ABSTRACT This research takles the relationship between selfimage and selfconcept in subjects with orthorexia indicators. Its main objective being to explore and describe the presence of both constructs as well as the tendency to suffer from orthorexia in teenagers. The universe consists of a host of adolescents, males and females with ages ranging from 16 to 22 years old, and all of them living in Caracas metropolitan area. They all took the Ortho-15 Test and the results obtained became the sample to work with after Gardner’s Body Image Test, Castro and Colás Measurement Scale of Body Perception, Montero’s Self Perception Scale for Body Image and Rosemberg’s Self Esteem Image Scale were administrated. Apart from this a semi-structured interview along with the Human Body Drawing Test were employed. Percentajes as well as frequency indicators are used accompanied by a cathegorical and descriptive analysis of the interviews, the Ortho-15 and the Human Body Tests. Quite obsessive tendencies were found in these boys and girls. So much so that boys feel more unsatisfied with their body image than girls. Thus they criticize it more often and make efforts to have a bigger size.
