EL AGARRE DEL HÉROE

Abstract

El propósito de este trabajo es explorar varias nociones relacionadas con el concepto del héroe desde una perspectiva comparativa y crítica. Mi contribución al tema del héroe es: a) una nueva clasificación de variados relatos e incidentes desempeñados por diversos personajes con rasgos heroicos, b) una consideración del lado oscuro de la intrepidez que incluye al “anti-héroe” y c) una reflexión que abarca también los “héroes de la paz”. Este trabajo se basa en textos históricos, literarios, teatrales y de leyendas; he encontrado en estas fuentes una rica variación de características que abarcan tanto las idealizaciones heroicas que habitan nuestro imaginario, como los significados más tenebrosos. He buscado protagonistas y narraciones contrastantes en donde el héroe reclama y maneja poder sobre los demás; todos los personajes que he incluido aquí tienen hilos en común: se han lanzado a la resolución de un problema o al cumplimiento de una meta con arrojo personal. Ocurre a veces que el protagonista acepte un desafío en rechazo a los valores principales de su grupo; es decir para lograr metas -suyas personales- transgrede lo aceptable en términos del colectivo, pero aún así, tiene seguidores entusiastas que lo admiran aun cuando sus metas y medios sean destructivos Abstract The purpose of this work is an exploration of several ideas related to the concept of the hero. It follows a comparative and critical perspective. My contribution to the notion of the hero is: a) a new classification of several stories and incidents as lived by various characters with heroic traits, b ) a consideration of the dark side of heroism that includes the "anti - hero", and c ) a reflection that also encompasses the "heroes of peace" . This work is based on historical, literary and theatrical texts and legends ; I have found in these sources a rich variation of themes covering both the heroic idealizations that inhabit our imagination, and some of the darker meanings. I searched for contrasting characters and stories where the hero demands and manages power over others; all the characters I have included here have common threads: they have launched into the resolution of some problem or goal with personal courage. It sometimes happens that the protagonist accepts a challenge that involves transgressing the core values of his group, either as a sacrifice for the wellbeing of others, or for his own, personal gain.
