| es_VE |
| dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT Currently data from cardiovascular risk with glucose levels below the threshold for diabetes are correlated; hence the glycosylated hemoglobin might be an efficient element to evaluate this risk. Objective: To assess the glycosylated hemoglobin as a cardiovascular risk factor in non-diabetic patients with ischemic coronary heart disease. Methods: It was evaluated 40 adults of both sexes, with ischemic coronary heart disease, and 40 without the disease (control). Results: It was found significant differences in age and sex. The age in the experimental group was higher than the sex with male dominance; there were no significant differences in anthropometric characteristics. The values of hemoglobin glycosylated (HbA1c) in cardiopath patients were statistical significantly higher; [p< 0.001 (5.11±0.72 vs 4.26±0.63)], than control group. Los basal glucose values were higher in the experimental group (p < 0.02; 96.23±11.27 vs 90.78±9.50), than those shown by the control. Basal insulin, found high in both groups, but no significant differences. HOMA-IR, was high in both groups but significantly greater in patients cardiopath p<0.05. Waist circumference has positive and direct correlation with basal insulin and HOMA-IR, in both groups. HbA1c correlated with HOMA-IR in the pilot with a p<0.05. 35% of cardiopath subjects had values of HbA1c > 5.5% as opposed to the control group in which all were below this range. Conclusions: Patients with chronic ischemic heart disease had higher HbA1c values and 60 per cent locate above 5%, a value that has been catalogued in previous works such as indicative of risk for cardiovascular disease. | es_VE |
