Resumen

En 1936 viejos políticos liberales y nacionalistas intentaron reconstituir a los partidos históricos venezolanos. Voceando sus programas se declararon opositores a ideologías exóticas y antivenezolanas como el fascismo y el comunismo,y partidarios del general López. Sin embargo, su intento sería un fracaso tanto generacional, como ideológico y táctico. Sin comprender los cambios ocurridos en Venezuela,su vieja política fue insuficiente para convocara las nuevas generaciones.

“You, principled liberals...”. The struggle for existence of Venezuelan historical liberalism after 1936

Abstract

In 1936, old liberal and nationalist politicians attempted to rebuild the historical Venezuelan parties. While promoting their platforms, they claimed to oppose exotic and anti-Venezuelan ideologies such as fascism and communism, while professing their support to General Lopez. Nonetheless, their attempt would be a generational, ideological and tactical failure. Unable to understand the changes that took place in the country, these parties and their old-style politics were not enough to rally new generations.
