ABSTRACT
This essay approaches the concept of Latin American identity expressed throughout its literature. It attempts to make differences between the point of view of both, the "conqueror" and the "conquered", that cohabitate at the same time in the Latin American "being". Moreover, it is a reflection about the originality of our literature as a natural consequence of its construction in the New World, thus revisiting the concept of Magic Realism from the standpoint of Arturo Uslar Pietri’s thougths, the intellectual who has deeply analyzed the matter. The article finishes with a "naïve" panorama on the main character (or the hero) in some of the most renowned Latin American novels.
