ENTRE HÉROES Y BANDIDOS: UNA APROXIMACIÓN AL “HOMBRE FUERTE” LATINOAMERICANO COMO PUENTE SIMBÓLICO DE LA FUNDACIÓN DE LA REPÚBLICA

Resumen

Este artículo ofrece una lectura de la figura del “hombre fuerte” latinoamericano, mediante sus representaciones más frecuentes durante la fundación de las Repúblicas en el siglo XIX, tales como el gaucho argentino y el llanero venezolano. El objetivo es entender estas representaciones literarias como un puente simbólico, una bisagra cultural, que facilitó, a través de su carácter dual de héroe y de bandido, el poner en contacto y hacer convivir en un mismo imaginario patrio dos proyectos nacionalistas que se encontraban en franca oposición.

ABSTRACT
This article offers an interpretation of Latin America’s ‘strong man’ figure, through its more common representations present during the foundation of the Latinamerican republics in the nineteenth century, such as the Argentinean gaucho or the Venezuelan llanero. The main goal is to understand those literary representations as a symbolic bridge, a cultural hinge, which made possible, taking advantage of its dual hero-bandit nature, to put two openly opposed nationalist projects in touch, and make them coexist in the same patriotic imaginary.
