LA MUERTE EN DON JUAN

Resumen

La figura literaria de Don Juan ha sido estudiada desde diversas ópticas y atendiendo a los más variados temas, intereses y prejuicios. A causa de su particular naturaleza y al provenir de una época de la literatura marcada por determinados complejos, los análisis sobre Don Juan han girado fundamentalmente en torno a su aspecto erótico y a su vínculo con el honor. Se ha soslayado, en perjuicio del personaje, toda su rica y estrecha relación con la muerte. En el presente artículo abordaremos esa relación. Amparados por referencias de la mitología clásica, veremos cómo se presenta en la obra la imagen de la muerte y cómo afecta a Don Juan y a los demás personajes. Nos detendremos un poco en cómo la muerte de Don Juan incide en el lector y en porqué es tan importante que la tengamos presente.

ABSTRACT

The literary figure of Don Juan has been widely studied not only from different points of views but also considering the most varied issues, topics, interests and prejudices. Due to its particular nature and to the future of an epoch in which literature was marked by certain complexes, the analyses about Don Juan have, fundamentally, turned on its erotic aspect and its links with honor. In our opinion, all the lush and close relationship between Don Juan and death has been side stepped in an inconvenient way, to the detriment of the character. In this article, we will deal with this particular relationship. Based on references to classical mythology, we will see how the image of death is portrayed in the text and in what way it affects Don Juan and the other characters. We will dwell upon the idea of how the death of Don Juan has an influence on the reader and why it is so important to bear this in mind.
